The Importance of Grounding

November 9, 2022 | By Vandana Sinha

Through all my articles so far, I have been building upon a story to explain the foundations of energy healing and metaphysics. To understand how it works and share basic knowledge and techniques. Energy Healing is a vast and profound domain. Experienced practitioners like me can vouch for its impact and I feel it’s important to share basic nuggets for others to understand how it works.

Today I want to talk about spiritual surrender. It’s a rather esoteric term and most people will skip content like this. It sounds and feels ‘too much’ or ‘too advanced’. As beginners or even laymen that’s a concept that can scare you off.

We have understood that the human body is a large energy field and is connected via energetic grid lines to the larger universe and to the earth. Whenever there is an imbalance in our connectedness to the earth we will feel ‘off’. In simple terms just like ‘earthing’ is important in an electrical grid, so it is in the human body.

If the energy flow from the earth to the body and vice versa is not smooth or is disrupted, it will upset the balance that the human body is supposed to have. This leads to many kinds of illnesses - physical, emotional, and mental. In modern life, this happens all the time and most of us do not know why it happens. We will have heard the adage – ‘Keep yourself grounded’ – but do not realize its importance in our daily lives.

So how do we ground ourselves?

There are many simple ways for this:

● Just walk barefoot for 15-30 minutes on earth or grass daily.

● You could even sit and keep your bare feet on the ground for a similar time.

● Play a sport outside

In short, do an activity that connects you to the energies of the Earth.

There are many benefits of grounding – like reduction of inflammation and pain in your body, reduction in stress and improving sleep. On an emotional and mental level – you feel collected, calm, and focused if you are grounded.

It is a good practice to start your day with a grounding exercise or meditation. Once you do this as a practice, you will observe that your response to stressful situations is more balanced. You will be more productive and less swayed by situations that are not to your liking. You could also set yourself some goals for the day after grounding yourself. It’s very possible to achieve them in such a state of mind.

When you find yourself in a stressful situation, do a quick mental grounding exercise. Imagine yourself connected to the core of the earth through your feet, take a few deep breaths and let go of whatever is stressing you down into the ground via the soles of your feet. It will help in quickly regaining composure and bring you back to being your normal self.

When you look around in nature – the larger the tree, the deeper are its roots and the stronger it is. Such trees are less swayed and are firmly rooted even in strong winds. They are well grounded. Hence, when you are ungrounded you are easily distracted, unfocused, anxious all the time, feel unsafe and unhappy. Our approach should be to become like the strong tree, to keep oneself together in the toughest of circumstances. And it comes with practice.

Find a good grounding exercise or meditation that works for you and incorporate it in your daily life!
