Faith as the Lighthouse: Navigating the Storms on the Path of Ascension

April 8, 2025 | By Vandana Sinha

The journey of ascension is a sacred path, often romanticized as a smooth rise into love, light, and clarity. But those who are truly walking it know a deeper truth: ascension is not a linear climb—it is a spiral, with layers of shedding, awakening, dissolving, and rebirth. It is beautiful, yes, but also disorienting, raw, and profoundly humbling.

In the midst of this spiritual unfolding, there come moments when the light seems to disappear—when we feel we are being tossed around in the dark waters of confusion, grief, or emotional pain. The old no longer fits, and the new hasn’t arrived yet. This in-between space, this sacred void, is where faith becomes not just helpful, but essential.

Faith: The Lighthouse Within

Faith is often misunderstood as blind belief. But in the context of the soul’s evolution, faith is much more refined. It is the steady knowing that even in the absence of proof, the path is still sacred. Faith is the gentle whisper of our inner compass saying, “Keep going.”

Spiritual teacher Ram Dass once said, “Faith is not a belief. Faith is what is left when your beliefs have all been blown to hell.” This is the faith that arises when all mental constructs fall apart and the only thing left is trust in something greater—something unseen, but deeply felt.

I remember guiding a client through a session during a time when she had lost her job, was grieving the passing of her father, and felt disconnected from all her usual practices. She said, “I don’t know what I believe anymore, and I can’t hear my guides.” I asked her to place her hand on her heart and breathe. In that silence, tears flowed—not of despair, but of release. Her soul knew the way. What she was missing was not guidance—it was trust.

The Storms That Refine Us

In many spiritual texts, storms are symbolic of transformation. In Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva—the archetype of destruction and renewal—often appears in times of great inner chaos. In Christianity, the story of Jesus calming the storm reminds us of divine presence even when we feel abandoned.

When we are stripped of what we thought we were, faith reminds us of who we truly are: energy, consciousness, soul.

I’ve personally walked through such a storm myself. I left a cushy, thriving, and high-profile corporate life to walk this path—as a healer, as a spiritual coach. On paper, it made no sense. The life I had built was successful by all conventional standards. But there was a knowing within that kept growing louder. It said: This is not the mountain you're meant to climb.

Choosing to listen to that voice took guts, and more than anything, it took faith. The journey that followed hasn’t always been smooth—it has been bumpy, uncertain, and deeply vulnerable. But never once have I doubted the calling. This is my purpose. And I would not trade doing this work for anything else in the world.

This is where the journey shifts. When we stop resisting the storm and instead learn to rest in its center, we access what many mystics call the “eye of the storm”—a place of unshakable stillness amidst chaos.

Spiritual Tools to Strengthen Faith

Faith is not something you either have or don’t—it can be nurtured like a flame. Here are some soul practices that can support you through rough waters:

  • Daily Silence or Meditation: Even five minutes of silence, practiced consistently, helps you attune to the soul’s quiet frequency.
  • Journaling as Surrender: Write not to analyze, but to release. Pour your raw emotions on the page and let the Divine read them with you.
  • Symbolic Rituals: Lighting a candle, offering a flower, or sitting under the moonlight connects your human experience with sacred rhythm.
  • Channeled Guidance: When faith falters, allow yourself to receive from others—through energy work, readings, or spiritual teachings that resonate.
  • Affirmations of Truth: Simple affirmations like “I trust in what I cannot yet see” or “My soul is leading me through” recalibrate your energy field.

Anecdote: The Bamboo Tree Lesson

A beautiful story from the East tells of the Chinese bamboo tree. Once planted, it requires daily watering and nurturing, but it doesn’t break through the soil for five years. Then, in the fifth year, it grows up to 90 feet in just six weeks. Did it grow in six weeks? No—it was growing invisibly, building its root system.

This is how spiritual transformation often works. We might not see the shift immediately, but deep under the surface, everything is aligning.

Faith is tending to your inner soil even when there’s no sign of growth yet. It is knowing that the soul doesn’t work on a human timeline.

Quotes That Illuminate the Journey

  • “You do not need to know where you are going, if you know God is leading.” — Elisabeth Elliot
  • “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” — Rumi
  • “Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his twin brother.” — Khalil Gibran

Let these words hold you when your own words disappear.

Why Staying Put Matters

One of the most profound choices we can make on this path is to stay. To stay in our practice. To stay with the breath. To stay with the discomfort. To not abandon ourselves when the shadows surface. This is where soul-mastery is born.

You may not feel ascended, enlightened, or even “on track” some days. But if you stay committed—not to perfection, but to presence—you are already rising.

Remember, even in the storm, your inner lighthouse never goes out. It might get dimmed by fear, grief, or doubt, but it’s still there. And every time you sit in silence, whisper a prayer, or feel gratitude in the chaos, you are tending to its flame.

Closing Reflection

Ascension is not about escaping the storm—it is about learning to walk through it with grace, humility, and unwavering trust in the light that guides from within.

So if you are in that space now—where everything feels uncertain—know that you are not alone. The soul does not rush. And the Divine never forgets where you are.

Let your faith be the lighthouse. Let your breath be the boat. The shore you seek is not far—it’s already rising within you.
